Aosta Piedmont

Of Roman origins, land of the House of Savoia, today capital of the Val d’Aosta

Aosta is the capital of the Val d'Aosta; the small mountainous region between Piedmont and the French Border. Aosta's Roman origins can be witnessed in monuments such as the Arch of Augustus, Porta Pretoria, the Roman Theatre, and the ancient city walls.

Dating back to the Medieval period, we find the Cathedral and the Collegiate Church of St Orso. Centuries later, Aosta fell to the House of Savoia and remained under its power until the unification of Italy. Not to be missed: a visit to the National Park of Gran Paradiso.
